Approaches to Learning

Within the early years of life, children are learning so many things. Their brains are rapidly developing and multitudes of cognitive connections are bring created. They're learning to use their bodies, learning the ins and outs of relationships, how to communicate and much more. The domain of Approaches to Learning focuses on the very traits that children must develop so that they can be successful in learning in school and throughout their lives. Early childhood education is important in establishing this foundation and with that choosing the "right" program is fundamental.

I have worked in both center-base and in-home child care settings and the both possess wonderful qualities. After years of working in a center base program I found my true joy working in in-home base settings. I was able to control and form a strong bond with both the families and their children in my care. This made developing traits like curiosity, engagement, persistence, inventiveness in each child more relaxed. These are all traits linked to the domain Approaches to Learning. With that, the children in program learn in a welcoming and fun setting with the same peers and teachers for the duration of the early years of learning.

Not all programs are right for every child, but when looking into a child care program ask yourself, "Will my children be able to confidently builds traits needed to be successful in their approaches to learning?"
